History of the Krumbs, Part I

The Krumbs are a group of friends from around the world – adventurers, hockey players, and unique characters who adopted “krumb” as a nickname and team name in in the late 1990′s. It’s both a slight and a compliment.

Krumb is a typo for the most uncommon and negative definition for the word crumb.

crumb [kruhm] noun

a small particle of bread, cake, etc., that has broken off.
a small particle or portion of anything; fragment; bit.
the soft inner portion of a bread ( distinguished from crust ).
crumbs, a cake topping made of sugar, flour, butter, and spice, usually crumbled on top of the rawbatter and baked with the cake.
Slang. a contemptibly objectionable or worthless person.
We happen to think that everyone has some worth, but not always competence. If you’re truly worthless chances are you couldn’t spell c-r-u-m-b correctly. After relocating to Florida we noticed a grocery chain we didn’t have in Pennsylvania ridiculously named Kash N’ Karry. This amused us so much we adopted it.

Our meaning of a krumb evolved to mean many, mostly positive things:

A person who is clever and exerts little or no energy doing something better than others who are doing more work and getting less done.
Someone who desires sleep and relaxation.
Someone with an appreciate for travel, music, sports, or games
As we played ice and roller hockey in our local rinks we quickly found some like-minded, good people and decided to form our own team. We needed a name. No, we didn’t. We already knew what it was. The Krumbs.

The team has evolved and now plays in Brandon, FL and annually in Las Vegas, NV.

The rest is history…and in the making. Countless championships, fortunes, fame, rehab, more fortune, relapse, hiking the Appalachian Trail, and building a castle all await!
